Jay and I drove to the Bay Area, where we'd stay at his parents house for the
next week, while I had the radiation plaque on. I felt good. I was ready to
go.
We arrived at their house and unpacked, just like we'd done before. Expect
this time, Mom came later that night. Mom arrived later that night. She’d
been driving back and forth from San Ramon all the other times. Having to
deal with that traffic was a terrible and I didn’t want her dealing with that
again. So we got her unpacked and cozy in Jay's parents office. It was
perfect.

It was time to go again, except this time, mom would be driving in the car with
us this. I'm so glad she drove down the night before. It made me feel so
much better to have her there and that she didn't have to deal with all that
traffic. It also made this morning's experience even better, because we could
all drive together to Kaiser. We did the same ritual as we'd done before. We
parked in the same parking lot, entered into the hospital through the same
entrance, took the elevator up to the 4 floor and then down the hall to the
th
reception desk where sweet Rose checked me in. She gave me a high five
this time and said with a sweet smile, “Let’s try this again.” I just loved
Rose. Once I was done registering, we took a seat in the waiting room. This
time, there was no one there we knew.
A little while passed and then they called my name. Jay and mom came back
with me. We were experts to the pre-op procedure. "Let’s do this thing." I
said. I wasn't worried at all. I changed, got on the bed and was ready to
go. The nurses came in, took my vitals and then put the IV in. Jay got me the
warm blankets again and I wrapped myself up in them. I was ready. Finally,
Dr. Phan came in. She said everything looked good. I was so relieved. We
were moving forward.
