7. MEMBER CONTROLLED:
All business concerning the Fund is managed by fellow co-workers through a committee
appointed by the DPS Commissioner from all levels of Department members.

8. FINANCIALLY SOUND:
Benefits paid out are reimbursed by members for each death. All financial business transacted
by the Committee is audited annually.

HOW TO JOIN THE DEATH BENEFIT FUND

You are eligible to join the Death Benefit Fund when you are employed by the Department of
Public Safety, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Department of Driver Services, Post, Georgia
Public Safety Training Center, or if you are a firefighter. You should have received an
application at the time of your employment. If you did not, please contact Diane Martin @ 678-
413-8708 to have one mailed to you.

You may join at any time after employment by paying the $10.00 for each six months of
employment.

Any initial application fee must be paid by cash, check, and money order or by payroll
deductions.

Completed applications should be returned to Diane Martin in HR who will process your
application through the Payroll office to establish payroll deduction. JOIN NOW!!

Space Oddity

The total eclipse of the Sun on
Monday, August 21st, did not go
unnoticed at Headquarters! There
were an assortment of devices,
some even homemade, to view the
"Great American Eclipse." It was
definitely exciting to witness the
temperature drop and gradual
darkness that came with the event.

If you accidently glanced at the Sun
without the proper eye protection,
don’t despair. If it was less than ten
seconds, we, I mean, you should be
alright. And face it, even the
President couldn’t help stealing a
glance!

Remember to save your glasses,
since this event will come around
again in seven years!
