Meet Rick Miller, Director of Investigative Services
A lifelong resident of Newton County with a career in Law Enforcement and married to his high
school sweetheart, Rick Miller opens up to the DDS Scoop!
Where did you work before coming to DDS?
I have been in law enforcement for 34 years. My first job was with the City of Covington Police
Department in 1983 and I worked there for 22 years. I then went to work in the Newton County
District Attorney’s Office as an investigator for a year and a half. I came to DDS in September of
2006 when Greg Dozier was the Commissioner.
When did you know that you wanted a career in law enforcement?
I wasn’t like most people who grew up wanting to be a law enforcement officer. When I was
23, I worked at the Sears Surplus Store in Covington and got to know the security officers who
also worked for the Covington Police Dept. That is when I first had the desire to pursue a law
enforcement career.
