CASE STUDY 1

               Optimised Supply Chain

The minimum amount of supply chain layering ensures that through a short and well
managed visible supply chain there will be less cost, less points of failure, shorter
processing time and greater probability of adherence to performance indicators.
Visibility is achieved through integrated management information systems, transparent
procurements, and Leonardo and Astute working together as a team.

It can be attractive to suppliers to source through the aircraft consumables open
‘grey’ market for excess stocks as the ‘approved’ source often has long lead times and
higher prices than the grey market. Leonardo and Astute ensure lead time risks are
mitigated and prices controlled through supplier management; we will only supply parts
that are fully traceable and fit for purpose.
               Fraudulent/Counterfeit Materials Policy and Process

In July 2014 the Authority published DEF STAN 05-135 Avoidance of Counterfeit
Material. Leonardo and Astute believe it is important to be complaint to this DEF
STAN to support the traceability and airworthiness requirements. Leonardo and Astute
both have a policy and processes in place for the mitigation of Fraudulent/Counterfeit
Materials and will comply to the new DEF STAN.
