• To plan and co-ordinate all activities related to safety and health such as
safety audit, accident investigation, training programmers, safety campaign,
etc.; and
• Act as the Secretary in the Main Safety and Health Committee. The Manager,
Safety and Health is also responsible for informing, cooperating and
communicating with local authorities including DOSH, DOE, Fire & Rescue
Department and the Police.

C.1.2 OSH Committee

The Safety and Health Committee are made up of employees and employer
representatives. The objective of these committee is to promote co-operation
between management and employees and carry out measures to ensure a high level
of safety and health in the daily operations of the plant and strengthen the concept of
responsibility towards safety.

At present RSAJ has established Safety and Health Committee at two (2) different
levels, which are the Main Committee and the District Committees. There are nine
districts which are:
• Kluang;
• Pontian;
• Muar;
• Batu Pahat;

• Segamat;
• Kulai;
• Kota Tinggi;
• Mersing; and
• Johor Bahru.

Every district has its own Safety and Health Committee to discuss or relay messages
on any issues pertaining to safety and health. The set-up of these committees is
according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 requirements. The
committee member’s functions are as follows:
• To assist in the formulation of safety & health measures and work safe
system;
• To review the effectiveness of the existing safety and health programmes;
• To analyze the trend of accident, near misses, occupational diseases and
formulate solutions to reduce the number of cases;
• To report on unsafe and unhealthy practices and make recommendations for
improvement;
