The Project for the New American Century
(PNAC) was a neoconservative think tank (1997-2006)
that had strong ties to the American Enterprise Institute.
In a PNAC’s policy document “Rebuilding America’s
Defenses,” the group calls for total military world
domination. Many PNAC members held high-level
positions in the George W. Bush administration. Many
Republicans have begun to question the old neocon
foreign policy consensus that dominated Bush’s GOP,
despite the fact that we are still involved in
neoconservative wars, like the war in Syria.
A big win for the Neoconservatives came in April
of 2018 when President Trump appointed John Bolton
as National Security Advisor. The job of the National
Security Adviser is to judge and filter intelligence data
for the president and does not require Senate
confirmation. John Bolton is the epitome of
neoconservatism. Bolton was a member of PNAC and
was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. As
Undersecretary for Arms Control and International
Security in the Bush administration, he was an
enthusiastic supporter of the invasion of Iraq and
enthusiastically pushes for war against North Korea,
Iran and Syria.
Since the early 1950s, the Neoconservatives have
led the United States in foreign exploits resulting in
regime changes. Neoconservatives are adept at
convincing politicians that specific foreign invasions
are necessary to preserve democracy in other countries
and to minimize a threat to America. These arguments
have been successful despite the fact that many of the
