Step 4b
Battery Stack Installation
Always check for rebar or underground obstructions before drilling!
Assemble the VRLA stack according to the battery manufacturer
instructions. Be sure to place the included acid-resistant support plates
under feet to help prevent tearing the liner. Center the VRLA stack on
the inside of the liner. Be very careful not to tear the liner by shifting the
VRLA stack. The liner should extend beyond the VRLA stack evenly on all
sides (Figure 5). The containment system may have been sized to allow a
larger spacing in the front to allow access to the terminals. Be sure to allow
at least 1” spacing in the back and sides. Verify aisle width and distance
needed from wall. Check to ensure that distances from the Barrier Wall
comply with local codes. Mark the locations of the holes to be drilled for the
battery stack. Drill holes for battery stack anchor bolts. Clean holes and
remove debris.
Centering the Stack on the
liner is very critical. If
another installer is
responsible for placing the
Stack, make sure it’s
centered prior to drilling.

If bolting VRLA stack to the ground, coat the anchor bolt with supplied
sealant before placement. Insert anchor bolt through washer (Figure 6). Run
a bead of supplied sealant around VRLA stack footprint, anchor bolts and
any open welds on VRLA stack that would allow liquid to seep under the
stack footprint.
