Club Magazine
Thank you for the positive feedback on the new format
of the club magazine. It has not quite got the same feel
as the high quality hard copy – but hopefully you are still
finding the information on our club that you want – and
with 6 updates a year it should always be more current
than the 3 print versions we were so used to.
As we approach Christmas and New Year there is much
to reflect on. At Quaffers night in October (which if you
don’t know is the annual presentation of club trophies
for the Men’s Competitions and a few mixed
competitions), our Secretary Manager Keith produced
his usual tour-de-force. His verbal report is presented in
full in this edition – over 150 members mentioned by
name – were you? You did not have to win anything to be mentioned – so please read Keith’s report.
Keith always makes his Poets Cup announcement in rhyme – this is also published in full – very
clever Keith.
Our Ladies AGM has taken place and we welcome Janet Doel as the new Ladies Captain. Janet’s
speech to the AGM is also published in this update. A very special, and rare, event took place at the
Ladies AGM when one member was given a special Contribution Award – the wonderful Sonia Price
– please read all about it.
Continuing with the theme of excellence of RCGC members golf – two of our very best were part of
the Hampshire County team that won the All England County Championship – read the full report
and congratulate our players when you see them.
Not to be outdone two of our Senior Men came so close to being crowned as National Seniors Pairs
Champions – for full details please read the report.
We have our usual joke and a rules question for you to ponder over – thanks to Nemesis.
Reports from our Club Captain, Seniors Captain and Committee Chairmen are accompanied by a list
of some great Social events over the next couple of months. Terrific programme ahead Malcolm!
You may not be aware of The Special Projects Committee – so the Chairman of that committee, Nigel
Jurd, has written about it’s history and current activities. Great work over many years by this
committee to develop the facilities we enjoy.
We also have an update on the refurbishment of the Trolley Shed – thanks to Peter Deal.
So, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas with your families and friends – stay safe and enjoy the
season.
Editor - Jim Thatcher.
