Visiting Shanklin & Sandown for their Vase Competition the team of Myself, Pete Dore, Mark Willcox and Sean Kerr
came second. Best three scores to count - my score was dropped!

Later in the year Peter Dore and I came second in the Corhampton Salver. We both played well but needed an extra
couple of putts to drop. Rowlands Castle has sent teams for the Captain’s competitions at Bognor Regis and
                                                                                                              rd
Waterlooville but there were no prizes here. However, at the BIGGA greenkeeper’s competition we managed at 3
place at Hockley with a team of myself, Keith Fisher, Robert Brown and Kevin Hensman (Deputy Head Green Keeper)
88 points seemed pretty good with 2 from 4 to count, but not good enough!

In the Annodata national competition Rowlands team are through to the finals at Montecastillo resort in Spain.
Good luck to James Hawley (team captain) and the rest of the team.

I had a very successful Captains weekend and thanks must go to all the helpers for all the support at the halfway
house. Later that week the Captain’s Charity Day took place and we raised in excess of £4,700 for my charity, The
Rowans Hospice. I need to thank my wife particularly as she did all the organising, a daunting task. I would like to
thank all of you who took part and for the kind donations and enthusiastic bidding at the auction. I particularly
enjoyed giving out the ice creams and beers as Liz and I drove all over the place in a buggy!

We have enjoyed a most successful summer party, two Friday Frolics and a champagne brunch and my thanks go to
the Social Committee for all their efforts. Please come and support the up and coming social functions which are
        displayed in the club house.

The Management Committee have discussed the Strategic Review carried out in 2016 and have implemented many
of the recommendations. However, recommendations to reduce the size of the Management Committee by only
having members who have elected by ALL of the membership will require rule changes with a postal vote and EGM.
This is likely to take place early in January 2018.

I look forward to meeting some of you at the Captain/Pro matches during the winter months.

        Good golfing
