                                    Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, %u201cI am doomed, O Messenger of Allah!%u201d He said, %u201cWhy are you doomed?%u201d He said, %u201cI had intercourse with my wife (during the day) in Ramadaan.%u201d He said, %u201cCan you free a slave?%u201d He said, %u201cNo.%u201d He said, %u201cCan you fast for two consecutive months?%u201d He said, %u201cNo.%u201d He said, %u201cCan you feed sixty poor persons?%u201d He said, %u201cNo.%u201d%u2026 Narrated by [Bukhari and Muslim]What is the ruling for a couple who engages in sexual intercourse during Ramadan while the husband has a legitimate reason for not fasting due to having arrived back home from travel, but the wife is fasting because she had not been on travel with him?In this case, there is no penalty on the husband because he had a legitimate reason for not fasting and thus it was permissible for him to have sexual intercourse. However, the wife would have to undergo the penalty of fasting the 60 consecutive days.
