                                    What is meant by wisal (connected fasting) and what is its ruling?Wisal (connected fasting) is fasting for two days without breaking one%u2019s fast in between with food and drink. It's disliked according to most scholars and forbidden according to Shafa%u2019i.Anas (ra) narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said, %u201cDo not perform wisal.%u201d They said, %u201cBut you perform wisal, oh Messenger of Allah.%u201d He said, %u201cI am not like you are, indeed my Lord feeds me and gives me to drink.%u201dIs it permissible to chew sugar-free/flavorless gum?Chewing gum containing sugar leads to breaking one's fast due to it containing ingredients and flavors that mix with the tongue and the saliva which enter the throat.As for sugar-free gum, it does not break one's fast. However, it is best to avoid it as it stimulates the saliva unnecessarily, which resembles intentionally gathering one's saliva and swallowing it which is an act that many scholars forbade.Is it permissible to intentionally gather one's saliva and swallow it to alleviate a dry mouth sensation for the fasting person?Gathering one%u2019s saliva and swallowing it does not break the fast regardless of how frequently it is done.
