Tornadoes
2-306 When a tornado approaches, anyone in its path should take shelter
indoors preferably in a basement or an interior first-floor room or
hallway. A blending or surge tunnel, found in many production
facilities, provides very good protection as well.
2-307 Avoid windows and seek additional protection by getting underneath
large, solid pieces of furniture.
2-308 Avoid automobiles and mobile homes, which provide almost no
protection from tornadoes.
2-309 Those caught outside should lie flat in a depression or on other low
ground and wait for the storm to pass.
FIRE SAFETY (2-400)
2-400 If a fire cannot be controlled by on-site fire fighting equipment,
immediately seek a safe area and initiate emergency response
plans.
Use of Fire Extinguishers
2-401 Use a type ABC or other appropriate Fire Extinguisher. Never use
water to extinguish electrical fires.
2-402 Become familiar with the operation and locations of fire extinguishers
and hoses in your office or plant. If you have never operated a fire
extinguisher, please ask your supervisor or someone from the Safety
Department to show you.
2-403 Do not place a used extinguisher back on its hook or rack.
2-404 Notify your supervisor of any used or partially used fire extinguishers.
Remove the fire extinguisher from service immediately, and replace it
with a fully charged fire extinguisher.
2-405 When using a fire extinguisher, keep the wind at your back. Pull the
pin. Aim at the base of the fire. Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from
side to side. (P.A.S.S.) Make sure you maintain an escape route.
2-406 Do not store material or equipment in front of, or on top of, fire
extinguishers or fire hose stations.
2-407 Fire extinguishers should be visually inspected as part of the pre-
shift/work area exams to ensure fire-ready condition.
