Flammables/Combustibles
2-408 Do not smoke, use open flames, or create sparks within 35 feet of
combustible or flammable liquids including storage tanks, battery
charging stations or where warning signs are posted.
2-409 Clean up all flammable/combustible spills immediately with an
absorbent material (e.g., shop rags, kitty litter).
2-410 Dispose of clean-up rags and absorbent material in an approved,
fireproof, labeled container with a closed lid.
2-411 Use only approved metal safety containers for gasoline and other
flammable liquids. Make sure that the approved metal containers
are in operable condition with self-closing lids.
2-412 Change your clothing immediately if flammable/combustible
liquids are spilled on them.
2-413 Do not store flammables near the immediate job location.
2-414 When transferring flammables/combustibles liquids to a
secondary container, if you are the person that transfers the
chemical to a secondary container, then you are responsible for
labeling it. The label must include the chemical name (i.e. diesel).
2-415 Keep containers closed when not in use.
2-416 Use correctly labeled containers only. Immediately report
unlabeled containers to your supervisor.
2-417 Do not use glass bottles for storing, using or transporting
flammable liquids.
2-418 Return any unused flammable liquid to the designated storage
area at the end of each shift.
2-419 Be sure that all bulk storage flammable containers are properly
grounded.
2-420 When transferring flammable liquids from tanks to smaller
containers, ensure that the smaller container is placed on the
ground.
2-421 Do not pour flammable/combustible liquids into sewer or drains.
Refer to the SDS for disposal instructions. Ask your supervisor if
you have questions.
2-422 Only use flammable liquids in well-ventilated areas. Store
flammables in a fire-proof/vented cabinet or NFPA approved
storage cabinets in shops/production area.
