BOWSTRING KNOT
I\ s its name suggests, this ancient knot was used in stringing the bows used in archery .
.£1.. Today it is more likely to be found on tent guy lines or washing lines, as it is most useful
for tightening or slackening lengths. American cowboys used this knot for their lariats and
called it the 'honda ', a corruption of the Spanish word for a 'sling'.
~ I Make an underhand loop Pass the working end
' clockwise in the working 2 through the loop to make

Take the working end through the topmost eye of
3 the overhand knot, going over the central part of
rope and then under the outer part of the loop.
To adjust the
5 size of the
loop, simply
adjust the
position of the
stopper.
Tighten the knot and then add a small stopper knot
4 to the working end of the rope to stop it from being
pulled through.
