Nomination Recognition 2017

        Report by Individual Nominee

       CATEGORY: DOING WHAT IT TAKES

       NOMINEE NOMINATOR DEPARTMENT
Joseph Zifer David Sargent Engineering Supply Chain 200550

Describe the situation or event related to the individual's or team's performance.

Joe exhibited an uncanny ability to deal with ambiguity throughout the project. He was in the midst of final
testing for T137, when production indicated we could no longer have the tank as scheduled. He was able to
move that work to a point that made sense for shelving until T137 becomes available and quickly move into the
development & implementation of T138. The same scenario played out later in the year with T140. Joes
quickly shelved the T140 work and moved to the DM1 tote implementation. He left T140 in a state such that he
was able to return to it later in the year when production could make the tank available.

Describe in detail the individual's or team's notable behaviors.
In addition to the POU work, Joe took on responsibility beyond that of a traditional controls role. He provided
support for the generators including both the mechanical system and the control system. He worked to identify
improvements in the calibration process. He identified a replacement for the existing pH probe housing on the
cleaner storage tank. This eliminated the need to empty the tank during calibration. He also identified a
means to allow CNS to utilize the storage tanks during a calibration, eliminating the need for CNS to pre-pull
totes or not be able to clean during a calibration. Joe was also instrumental in the addition of chillers to help
       cool the generation units.

Joe was able to successfully work with scheduling, CNS, calibration, production maintenance and facilities
maintenance to achieve his desired results.

What were the results of the individual’s or team’s behaviors?
Joe made a significant contribution to the Safewater project in 2017. Joe was able to code, implement and
validate the addition of T138 and 2 DM1 totes to the Safewater Storage & Distribution System. The
implementation of these additions happened on or ahead of schedule and impacted production & CNS to the
smallest extent possible. Once the systems were returned to production, no additional downtime was required
to make corrections to either system. CNS has expressed pleasure with the performance of both Points of Use.
