10 Satan in the Sanctuary
One is reminded of Mark Twain's humorous comment
about his father. "When I was fourteen," he reminisced,
"I discovered that my father was so dumb it was embarras-
sing to have him around. When I was twenty-one, I was
amazed at what he'd learned in seven years."
The Bible has seemed to learn a great deal lately. The
restoration of Israel, the creation of the Common Market,
the Six-Day War, the alignment of Russia against Israel,
the ecumenical church movement, the prevalence of earth-
quakes, and many other major developments on the world
scene are all prophesied in the Bible. What's more, all of
these are given as signs of the end times. It is as though the
stage is being set for the final outworkings of God's plan
for mankind. World events are falling into place like the
pieces of a gigantic puzzle.
This book confines itself to the possibilities of the re-
building of the Jerusalem Temple, a prophecy which has
come into sharp focus since the Six-Day War, in which
Israel recovered the ancient Temple site in the Old City
of Jerusalem. The prophecies concerning this event are
examined in detail and compared with the current scene
in the Holy Land. The world-shaking importance of this
piece of that gigantic puzzle is emphasized.
The authors have brought together theological and
journalistic experience to present in clear form the ap-
pearance of one of those signs of the end times. Dr. Mc-
Call originally gave the ideas included here in an article
published in Bibliotheca Sacra, "How Soon the Tribula-
tion Temple?" (Fall, 1971; Spring, 1972).
It is the hope of the authors to reach all readers, be-
lievers in Christ and unbelievers alike, with the message
that God's Word goes on, oblivious to doubt, and that we
alive today are in a position to see it fulfilled.
