Introduction to the Revised Edition 15
The archaeology goes on, but we can now add to it many
other startling developments leading toward the fulfillment
of the prophecy of end times in obvious ways.
First and foremost, there have been the political develop-
ments which have virtually changed the world in a few short
years. The 1973 War, the Yom Kippur War, with its ac-
companying Arab oil embargo, has made Israel a focal point
of tension among the global powers. The increasing unrest
in the Middle East leads directly toward the most foreboding
consequences of the coming tribulation.
Second, the archaeology has progressed now to the point
where the Israelis are working on an "archaeological park" at
the Temple site, open to the peoples of the world who visit
Israel. The ancient Temple settings have been uncovered to
a great degree, and artifacts have been found from vastly
differing periods. Roman coins and relics from the period
following the destruction of the second Temple lie open to
inspection now, and far below them relics have been un-
covered from the period of the Israeli kings during the first
Temple times. An Egyptian idol has been found dating to
the period of the paganized King Ahaz. With the relics, of
course, comes much information that the scholars are able
to use in planning for the accurate placement and construc-
tion of the third Temple, the coming Tribulation Temple.
Next in the line of developments since our original publi-
cation must come the renewed interest of the true church in
this prophecy. Satan in the Sanctuary had an unpredictably
large and lengthy distribution through its various editions by
Moody Press, Bantam Books, and German and Finnish
translations—over two hundred thousand copies. What was
once a rather obscure issue of prophecy has now come to
light, so that Christians everywhere are deeply knowledge-
able about the coming Temple in Jerusalem. This, in turn,
