prophecy as we watch enormous upheavals of a religious and
political nature throughout the world. The coming rapture
of the Church needs no signs to precede it, according to
prophecy, but we are seeing the preparation of the tribulation
which is to immediately follow the rapture. We indeed are
privileged.
It should be realized that we could have lived at any time
through the past nineteen centuries and not seen the slightest
hint of progress toward the rebuilding of the Temple of God
in Jerusalem. In all of that time the Jewish people were in
dispersion, away from the promised land. But now, in God's
providence, they are home again, and, we can see they are
getting ready to rebuild the Temple.
The ongoing drama of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem
certainly bears close scrutiny for those who believe the pre-
cise declarations of the Bible. It is there that most of the
prophecy of our times and the end times will unfold. The
Temple must be rebuilt at some point prior to the middle of
the seven-year period of tribulation. It must be rebuilt on
its appointed site, the site of its forerunners, the Temples of
Solomon and Herod. We must watch, but very carefully;
distinguishing between fact and rumor and between wishful
thinking and accurate observation. We must not misread
events, either through insensitivity to prophecy or over-
anticipation of its fulfillment.
After the Six-Day War the chosen people began to con-
duct archaeological research around the Temple Mount, and
this slow-going but dramatic work has begun to uncover the
secrets of the Temple worship of the past. When the new
Temple is built, the Jews will be ready to use it. We were able
to report in the original edition, Satan in the Sanctuary, that
much of the underground geography of the former Temples
had been uncovered and many valuable artifacts found.
