massive prayer movement in 1975, with its accompanying
repercussions. Certainly the Supreme Court would not have
spoken on the question at all if it had not foreseen such in-
cidents.
JEWISH AND CHRISTIAN CONCERN
For the Muslims to express strenuous objection to Jewish
prayer on the mount, and even to riot, is rather to be ex-
pected. But there was also a great deal of Jewish and Chris-
tian concern over the incident of 1975. Letters poured in to
the Post, mostly expressing the obvious point that the mount
is, after all, a Jewish prayer ground. We submit the following
letters as representative of the Jewish and Christian views:
