he is the Messiah by his devotion to the Law, by success-
fully rebuilding the Temple, and by successfully regather-
ing the exiles to Israel.
4. Israel must first renew the sacrifices on the Temple
Mount, and this will hasten the coming of the Messiah,
who will then rebuild the Temple.
5. A divinely inspired Prophet of God must first reveal to
the people the criteria needed to permit the rebuilding of
the Temple and the sacrifices, but this cannot be accom-
plished until peace prevails and the majority of world
Jewry dwells permanently in Israel.
6. Reconstruction of the Temple and resumption of the
sacrifices should be undertaken by the common people
in the immediate future, before the coming of the Mes-
siah. The work should be guided by Jewish religious and
historical sources, in four steps:
A. Sacrifices offered on the site of the ancient altar
B. Temple to be rebuilt to the specifications of Ezekiel
40-48
C. Appearance of the Messiah to correct and embellish
the structure and give further instruction on the
sacrifices
D. A lowering by the Almighty of the celestial Temple
of Fire to stand within the manmade Temple.
7. Prayer services should be held on the Temple Mount in
hopes that this will encourage world peace and hasten the
redemption of Israel and mankind, as predicted in Isaiah
1
56:7.
Rabbi HaCohen says that the "distinct minority" who hold
the sixth view above "believe that prayer services should be
organized on the site of the Temple." But he concedes,
