If the ancient practices of sacrifice and oblation are to
be discontinued, then they must first be reinstituted. And
this in turn requires a proper Temple.
John F. Walvoord says, "With the realignment of na-
tions, Israel will enter into a covenant with the Gentile
rulers of the Middle East, as anticipated in Daniel 9:26-
                           27. . . . Orthodox Jews will apparently revive their ancient
                                                                1
sacrifices and a temple will be provided."
What is being described here are events in the coming
tribulation period. Clearly, the Temple must be standing
and in use by the middle of that period. As for the actual
reconstruction time, it is not given. It could be built well
before the middle of the tribulation period. We know only
that it must be standing and operating for the Antichrist to
carry out his actions against sacrifice and oblation, and
those actions are prophesied to occur in the midst of the
                           tribulation period.
No less an authority than our Lord corroborated Daniel's
prophecy, and added still another piece of evidence for
the establishment of a third Temple. In Matthew 24:15-16
                           Christ advised:
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of deso-
lation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy
place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) then let them
which be in Judaea flee into the mountains. (Italics
                                added.)

The Lord said that the abomination of desolation re-
ferred to by Daniel would be in the holy place. The holy
place was one of the two rooms in the original Temple de-
sign. These two rooms, designed and ordained by God,
were the holy place (ha-kodhesh), and the most holy place
(kodhesh ha-kodhashim). Exodus 26:33 makes the dis-
