Mr Angula Thomas Ndjemb
NAMCOL Annual Report 2019/2020o
“800” – which he used when he delivered information at Engela to be
ferried to the PLAN fighters. He performed his task successfully for three
consecutive years without being detected by the colonial regime. Due
to his success with this mission, after Namibia’s independence, he was Honoris Causa
registered as a war veteran.
Apart from his involvement in the liberation struggle, Mr. Ndjembo took
up an advisory role in the politics of the Ondonga traditional authority
when royal succession disputes arose in Ondonga in 2017. His advice
to the Ondonga royal lineage led to the settlement of the Ondonga
succession disputes. He had learnt the customs, traditions, and norms on
coronation from:
» his mother, Mutaleni Itamalo, who lived with Ondonga royal
people, at her namesake Kuku Mutaleni gwaMpingana’s royal
homestead at Onamungundo, to who she was named after.
» his paternal aunt, Helena Ndjembo, whose father, Mr. Ndjembo’s
paternal grandfather and herself had served in the palace of
Omukwaniilwa Nambala dhaKadhika, who ruled Ondonga from
1912 to 1942.
As a result, in 2020, Mr. Ndjembo was appointed as Senior Counsellor by
Omukwaniilwa Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo charged with the task of
researching Ondonga History. He was also instrumental in organising the
national commemoration of the Battle of Namutuni, waged in support
of the Ovaherero by the Eastern Aandonga under Omukwaniilwa
Nehale lyaMpingana against German colonial forces in 1904. At the
commemoration on the 28 of January 2022, he narrated the history of
th
this battle under the theme: “Omivo 118 okuza 1904 sigo 2022” 118 years
since 1904 to 2022.
