already become a prolific writer. In summary he has published, three
novels, two short stories, twenty-two plays and one training manual. Mr
Ndjembo often conveys motifs of traditional Oshiwambo folklore into a
modern setting. Most of Mr Ndjembo’s plays have been translated into
English to serve the wider Namibian community and abroad. In addition,
his literary works have been prescribed for various grades in both primary
and secondary schools. The writings of Mr. Ndjembo, has inspired many
young people who are keen to read his literary texts appeal to the youth,
and which have promoted mother-tongue literacy.
5. MR. NDJEMBO’S POLITICAL CAREER
During Namibia’s Liberation Struggle, Mr Ndjembo was an informer for
the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO). He was recruited
by a member of the Peoples Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) who
approached him through his former classmate, the late Otniel Pohamba
who lived in Engela. To be effective in performing underground activities
for SWAPO, he was taken to Angola to a secluded venue for training. Mr.
Ndjembo and his former schoolmate travelled to Southern Angola on
foot. They met PLAN combatant, Mr. Matias Ashikudhike, and a civilian,
Mr. Silas Shoombe. Mr. Ndjembo underwent intensive training for a few
hours. Placing his life in danger he returned to Namibia after sunset
despite the curfew regulation in place at that time. Fortunately, they
arrived in Namibia at night without encountering any problem.
Mr. Ndjembo was given the strategic task of informing the PLAN
combatants of any activity being planned by the colonial regime which
he acquired through his SWABC position. He was given a secret code
