5. ENVIRONMENT SCAN
Our Institutional Research section in the Directorate of Strategic Institutional Planning
gathered information about the external world, competitors and internal factors. Like
other institutions of higher learning, the Directorate systematically undertakes
institutional surveys, and interprets relevant data to identify the SWOT. The detailed
environmental scan is inclusive of micro and macro analyses and the stakeholders’
needs analysis, which are contained in the subsections below. The strategic issues will
be listed in subsection 3.3.
5.1 Micro and Macro Economic Environment
The macro and micro environmental factors that affect the University are identified
and listed in Figure 1, which presents a summary of opportunities and challenges in
the University’s environment.
