TEARS OF SUFFERING
After lunch, Samphel giggled and said, “Mom, I think I
should take Ugyen to a barber. His hair is gross.”
Ama grinned but gesticulated to Samphel to stop
giggling. “Fine, make him smart. Here, take money.” She
waved a hundred-ngultrum note to Samphel. “I am
attending my friend’s promotion party. I would return
home late. So, don’t hang around late. Be careful about
the rogues on the streets.”
Samphel took the money. “Don’t worry, mom. You
know that I don’t mingle with them.” He flapped the
note and grinned widely. “Thanks, mom. This should be
sufficient for us.” Turning back to Ugyen, he said, “Let’s
go, Ugyen.”
Ugyen cringed and tiptoed out after Samphel.
“Bye, don’t stay late,” shouted Ama.
“We won’t, mom,” replied Samphel.
Straightaway, Samphel took Ugyen to his favorite
barbershop in the heart of the town. There, they waited
for their turns. When their turn came, Samphel instructed
the barber for the trendiest hairstyle cut. The barber
began his job as Samphel watched him from the bench.
As instructed, the bar had trimmed Ugyen’s hair in a
Super-Cool Kids Mohawk Haircut style.
