TEARS OF SUFFERING

Samphel returned to Ugyen and said, “I am going to
school. Feel free here. Don’t go out. I would return in
            the afternoon.”

Ugyen nodded though he felt bottlenecked without
Samphel. He watched Samphel taking down the stairs,
carrying a bag. As Samphel turned back and smiled at
            him, he waved his hand.

“Stay inside and don’t go anywhere, please!” shouted
            Samphel from the door.

            “I would, Au,” he replied.

Au Lham remained busy round-the-clock that morning,
but Ugyen didn’t help her. So Au Lham beckoned him to
the kitchen. “Sweep all the rooms, please.”

“Sure, Au,” said Ugyen. “Pass me the broom, please.”

Au Lham pointed to the living room and said, “It’s
            behind the door, there.”

As Ugyen was sweeping, Ama came out of her room. So
she watched him as he did it immaculately.

“I have a feeling that you have worked somewhere
            before,” said Ama.

“Yes, Ama,” replied Ugyen, grinning. “Ever since I came
            to Thimphu.”
