TEARS OF SUFFERING
Ugyen released her hand and sighed. “What does it
matter to you?”
“Because you are my friend,” she said, “I think I deserve
to know.”
The words sank to the boom of his heart. He had decided
not to share anything that would rekindle a fury in his
heart, but he couldn’t refuse Tshoden. “I am an orphan.”
Tshoden’s heart fluttered. “What?”
“I said I am an orphan.”
Still, her jaws dropped, she said, “I never knew that. But
how come—”
“I live with my surrogate parents,” he replied. “They are
my saviours.”
“Oh, really?” She looked into his eyes sadly. “I am sorry
about that. Where’re your parents?”
Ugyen tried not to stammer as he feigned a lopsided smile
to her. “They are both dead. They left me when I was a
kid.”
Tshoden covered her mouth and seized breathing. For a
moment, she couldn’t believe it. “This enigmatic life, I
don’t understand.” She shook her head. “No, I don’t
believe a word you just said.”
