TEARS OF SUFFERING
would cross the edge, one day. Ugyen couldn’t
reciprocate Tshoden’s help and care in equal terms, but
she was happy for his friendship.
On her side, Tshoden considered him the best among her
several friends, but with time, Tshoden found Ugyen
grooming into an attractive adolescent and her internal
feelings for him grew rapidly. Sometimes, she behaved
strangely and that made Ugyen reason she liked him. The
friendship remained platonic without confessions of
love.
One day, a note spiraled to the ground from Ugyen’s
notebook. He picked it up and read. It was a love note.
It was Tshoden’s handwriting. He didn’t write her back.
He acted unaware of it.
Tshoden felt miserable when Ugyen didn’t respond even
after many days. Every day, she expected he would at
least respond verbally. She couldn’t concentrate on her
work. Her love-struck thoughts haunted her even at her
eating place. So she approached Ugyen.
“I know you have read my letter,” she said. “Why don’t
you say anything?”
He feigned a surprise. “What letter?”
“Don’t try to act expensive,” she sniffed in her tears.
“You are very rude.”
