Ugyen introduced Tshoden to him, but never disclosed
to him their affair. It was a secret he preserved to share
with Samphel when it was time. He wanted to give him a
big surprise when the time came..
Next Sunday, she came again. “Where’s Ugyen, Au?”
“You aren’t lucky even today.”
“Wrong time, sorry,” she said, turning away to leave.
“Wait, please.”
She turned back to him. “Yes?”
“Have tea and you go.”
She didn’t refuse. It wasn’t a coincidence as she had
timed her visit to meet Samphel. “Thanks,” she said,
flashing a smile.
Over tea, Samphel sat beside her. “Where are you from?”
“Trashiyangtse.”
“Where do you stay?”
“Around the corner,” she said, blowing at the hot tea.
“My uncle works here.”
“Really?” he threw her flirty smile. “You are pretty.”
“Good sense of humour,” she said, giggling.
