TEARS OF SUFFERING

While Samphel and Tshoden were chatting and flirting in
the living room, Ugyen and Au Lham did their chores,
            often glancing at each other.

After a long conversation, Tshoden sneaked out.

That night, while Samphel was fast asleep, Ugyen decided
to sacrifice his love for his brother, but try as he might,
he couldn’t hold back the happiness Samphel had
            showered him bountifully.

Early the next morning, he slept in the living room. He
crooned but words stuck in his throat. He sighed deeply
and crooned again, but his voice shuddered. “Why on
earth do I have to suffer? What’d I do?” He stopped
sweeping and sat on the sofa and peeped through the
window. The garden was full of assorted flowers, but
even the rose—the most gorgeous flower—showed him
            its thorns.

He tried not to remember Tshoden. She appeared like a
tigress, aggressively growling at him even when he
            remembered her beautiful smile.

That day, Ama went on a tour to Phuentsholing. So,
Samphel phoned Tshoden to come to his place, and she
arrived in the evening. They chatted in a relaxed manner
in the living room until the power cut. Samphel dragged
            Tshoden into his room.
