Au Lham flashed him a smile. “Tell me, please.”
He stammered on words. “I think it’s time that I…I…”
She kept the kettle on the stove and frowned at him.
“What are you planning to do?”
“It’s time for me to leave,” he said.
She gasped. “What? Where? What do you mean?”
He hung his head. “Sorry, Au, but I have to go now?”
“How could you say that?” she blurted. “Apa and Ama
have brought you up like their own son. Now you talk of
betraying them?”
“One day or another, I must leave.”
“No way! I can’t believe this.”
Ugyen had tears brimming in his eyes. “You understand
my situation, Au, don’t you?”
She stared at him, foreseeing the repercussion. “You are
ungrateful! Ama would have a heart attack”
He turned away from her and sniffed. “I can’t bear this
anymore, Au.”
