TEARS OF SUFFERING

Dusk descended; everybody hastened home. Ugyen and
Tshoden walked, hand in hand. On the way, Tshoden
grasped Ugyen’s hand to indicate she loved him. Ugyen
            gripped her hand too.

Tshoden leaned her head on his shoulder and said,
            “You’re an awesome singer.”

            “Thanks for the compliment.”

Before she parted her way, Tshoden embraced him and
            whispered, “I like you.”

Ugyen smooched her rubicund cheeks and replied, “I like
            you, too.”

Leaves withered and turned yellow. Birds fluttered in glee
as the breeze ruffled the leaves in the rays of the setting
sun. Down in the valley, people bustled about even
            though it was cold.

Ugyen and Tshoden would write the ICSE (Indian
Certificate of Secondary Examinations) in March. In
winter, Tshoden called Ugyen to her place for revision.
Seeing them work hard, Tshoden’s uncle and aunt
provided a study room in the attic. They often visited
            with tea and snacks.

After board exams, Tshoden remained back with her
uncle and aunt as she couldn’t part from Ugyen. Ugyen
            couldn’t live without Tshoden either.
