ADMINISTRATION, PARENT, TEACHER COMMUNICATIONS

                                                     STANDARDS

               Confidentiality

Many topics that are discussed among teachers and other employees are clearly confidential.
Please do not betray this confidentiality. Reports, grades, performance, test results, and other
information about individual students should not be discussed in public or in areas where
others might easily heard by others, especially the lounge area.

Records of students are confidential. Such records include e-mail or any Internet references as well
as homework, assessments, etc. It is the teacher’s responsibility to maintain this confidentiality.
Use caution when correcting papers or sharing student information when other students or non-
               school employees are present.

If in doubt as to whether or not a topic should be considered “confidential,” go ahead and consider
it so. If clarification is needed, contact the principal/counselor. The Texas Education Code
specifically addresses these issues in Sections TEC 26.004, TEC 26.006, and 42 USC Sect. 1983,
as well as the Family Education and Privacy Acts (FERPA).

               Communications

The regular chain of command is pupil, teacher, campus administration, superintendent, and school
board. Parents will be asked to meet with the teacher/teachers first. Administrators will gladly sit
in on these meetings if requested by the parents or staff.

Communication between staff members, administrators and family/community is necessary for
efficient use of resources and as evidence of the respect and dignity to which all are entitled. Every
action, from tone of voice and choice of words to body language will be consistent with a high
degree of understanding of the unique characteristics of young learners and our belief that all
children are worthy of our love and respect.

It is a violation of school policy for employees to send out mass communication regarding any
complaint or issue of concern without approval from campus level administration. Any employee
violating this policy will face disciplinary action.

The teacher should keep copies on file of all home/school communication. This documentation
will help us document efforts to increase home/school communications, as well as jog your
               memory when necessary.
