Communication Between School & Home
A grade level newsletter is required each month. A calendar of plans, upcoming events, and major
units of study should be included. Accomplishments, academic suggestions for assisting students,
school news and general reports about the grade level are always good topics.
All parent notes relating to classroom activities (i.e. field trips, special event days, culminating
activities, newsletters, etc.) must be approved by administration prior to dissemination.
Teachers are also expected to communicate as frequently as needed through individual notes,
phone calls, mailed letters, E-mail messages, etc. Frequent and effective communication is
essential! When a parent requests a return call from you, please do so that same day. A timely
response is expected.
ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day
to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom home through
photos, videos, and messages. All teachers will be required to use ClassDojo throughout the school
year to communicate student performance, campus culture and exchange information with
families.
COVID-19 Adjustments
School operations in the 2020-2021 academic year will continue to be flexible to accommodate
the condition of and recovery from COVID-19. The first 9-week grading period will involve
teachers providing digital instruction from their homes. Students will participate online, using
laptops checked out from The Lawson Academy. As parents respond to surveys approaching the
second and subsequent 9-week grading periods, teachers and students may return to the campus
for instruction.
Daily attendance on The Lawson Academy campus requires staff, student and visitor completion
of multiple safety steps to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Following are the return
to onsite work protocols. Since this is an ever-changing situation, The Lawson Academy may need
to change protocols at any time to address specific needs and circumstances in order to protect the
health and safety of students, staff and the community. The district will comply with applicable
federal and state employment and disability laws, workplace safety standards and accessibility
standards to address individual needs. It is important to remember the virus that causes COVID-
19 can be spread by infected persons who have few or no symptoms. Even if an infected person
shows no symptoms or is only mildly ill, the people they spread it to may become seriously or
fatally ill, especially for persons 65 years of age or older with pre-existing health conditions placing
them at higher risk. Because of the hidden nature of this threat, The Lawson Academy expects all
employees, students and families to complete the COVID-19 Symptoms Check each time they
arrive on campus, located in Exhibit S.
