• Exempt Employees -- Employees who are not eligible for overtime and in some cases also
not subject to minimum wage regulations, in accordance with applicable federal, state and
local wage and hour laws. Executives, professional employees, academy principals, heads
of school, counselors, PEIMS coordinator, and teachers, outside sales representatives,
certain computer professionals and some administrative employees are typically exempt.
Equal Employment Opportunity
The Lawson Academy provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants
without regard to race, color, religious creed, sex, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status,
pregnancy, childbirth, physical disability, mental disability, age, military status or status as a
Vietnam-era or special disabled veteran, marital status, registered domestic partner or civil union
status, gender (including sex stereotyping and gender identity or expression), medical condition
(including, but not limited to, cancer related or HIV/AIDS related), genetic information, or sexual
orientation in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. In addition, The Lawson
Academy complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in
employment in every location in which The Lawson Academy has facilities. This policy applies
to all terms and conditions of employment, including, but not limited to, hiring, placement,
promotion, termination, and layoff, recall, and transfer, leaves of absence, compensation and
training.
Introductory Period
The introductory period is intended to give new employees the opportunity to demonstrate their
ability to achieve a satisfactory level of performance and to determine whether the new position
meets their expectations. The Lawson Academy uses this period to evaluate employee capabilities,
work habits, and overall performance. It is also a time to get to know your fellow employees, your
manager, The Lawson Academy culture and the tasks involved in your job position, as well as to
become familiar with The Lawson Academy products and services. Your manager or another team
member will work with you to help you understand the needs and processes of your job.
All new and rehired employees work on an introductory basis for the first ninety (90) calendar
days after their date of hire. Employees who are promoted or transferred within The Lawson
Academy must complete a secondary introductory period of the same length with each
reassignment to a new position. Any significant absence during the introductory period will
automatically extend an introductory period by the length of the absence. If The Lawson Academy
determines that the designated introductory period does not allow sufficient time to thoroughly
evaluate the employee’s performance, the introductory period may be extended for a specified
period.
This introductory period or the successful completion of the introductory period does not affect
the employment status of an employee being “at-will,” meaning that the employment relationship
may be terminated at any time and for any non-discriminatory reason by either party.
