Cellular Phone Use
Cell phone use by teachers in the classroom during instructional time is prohibited unless there is
an extreme emergency. It is a violation of school policy for teachers to engage in personal cell
phone conversations or texting during instructional time in class (unless dire emergency).
Please keep all cell phones and other electronic devices on silent or turned off.
Child Abuse / Child Safety
If you are concerned about the safety and/or welfare of a child due to neglect, any type of abuse,
or threat of abuse or harming others, you are required to report the incident to CPS at 1-800-252-
5400. Reports to CPS must be made by the teacher. Reports to CPS must be made by the person
who suspects abuse and must be made within 48 hours. If you suspect abuse, you are required to
report the incidence to CPS.
Children of Staff
It is a real honor that many teachers and other staff members have chosen to bring their own
children to our school. This communicates a strong positive message to our other teachers and to
our students’ parents. Such support and trust are appreciated, and we hope to always keep it.
After-school care is your responsibility. Your child must remain in your classroom and not in the
halls unless he/she is under the supervision of an adult. Your child should not attend faculty
meetings, be present during parent-teacher conferences, or attend other meetings or functions
designed for staff. Your child is not to be in the faculty/staff lounge or workroom. Staff must make
arrangements before and after school for a child(ren) that are not enrolled at The Lawson Academy.
Computers & Technology
It is the responsibility of each teacher and other professional staff to take care of computers and
related technology which may be located in classrooms or other areas. When you are assigned a
computer (or other technology), you will be required to complete the Fixed Assets Log (Exhibit I)
to confirm your receipt of the equipment. Any computers and peripherals taken off campus are
the responsibility of the individual taking them. Upon return of equipment, the staff member must
sign the log designating the equipment is back on campus. Technology issues must be reported
using the IT Helpdesk. Response time for most repairs is within twenty-four hours.
Copier Use
The copiers are available for your use as needed for instructional purposes. As with other supplies,
you are “limited” to a certain number of copies. Please do not make excessive copies of color
copies. Remember to use both sides of the paper when possible. Let the office know imediately
if the copier needs toner or if service is required.
