• providing recommendations for floor slab design including subgrade preparation, design
modulus of subgrade reaction, underdrainage or capillary break recommendations, and
moisture vapor barrier requirements;
• providing recommendations for pavement section thickness design and subgrade
preparation;
• discussing groundwater and/or bedrock levels (if encountered) at the time of the
investigation and the potential impact on the proposed construction;
• providing recommendations for earthwork considerations during construction including the
suitability of on-site materials for re-use, anticipated filling operations, and the availability
of local materials; and
• providing recommendations for additional investigation, if warranted.
Field investigation activities will be supervised by an engineer who will direct sampling efforts,
classify soils and record surficial and subsurface observations. The results of the investigation will
be summarized in a Report of Geotechnical Investigation prepared by a Professional Engineer.
Subsurface Utility Investigation (GPR Survey):
Our office will conduct a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Quality Level B Survey investigation
of the site, utilizing ground penetrating radar (GPR) and/or an electromagnetic pipe
locator. Additionally, the location of these features and evident anomalies will be marked in the
field using paint and/or flags and depicted on a hand drawn field sketch (not to scale). This phase
will include survey locations in the field and incorporated into base mapping.
Phase I environmental Investigation:
Per the township checklist a Phase I report is required. If a waiver is not requested, this Phase I
environmental assessment can be performed in this scope. This Environmental Engineer will conduct a
Phase I ESA at the subject property in accordance with the ASTM Standard Practice for Environmental
Site Assessments (E1527-05). The Phase I ESA is intended to qualitatively identify recognized
environmental conditions that may require further evaluation or corrective action. Specifically, the Phase I
ESA will consist of the following activities:
• confirming current site ownership through the local or county tax assessor’s office and
evaluating historical ownership and land use to the extent that such records are readily available;
• utilizing on-line services to access federal and state databases to determine if reported
environmental conditions exist on site or on adjacent or nearby properties;
• conducting a search for and review of Fire Insurance Maps, City Directories, aerial photographs
and historical topographic maps, if available;
• interviewing current and/or past owners/occupants of the subject property or owners/occupants
of neighboring property, as necessary;
• performing a site reconnaissance of the property to identify and assess potential recognized
environmental conditions, hazardous building materials, business environmental risks and adjacent
property usage;
• accessing and reviewing publicly-available records at federal, state, local and tribal regulatory
agencies to determine if past or current environmental enforcement, investigative or corrective
