STAKEHOLDERS’ SUPPORT TO ATHLETIC COACHES
WILSON D. PERADILLA
The study assessed the stakeholders’ support to the athletic coaches in the public
secondary schools situated in the Sixth Congressional District of Pangasinan during the school
year 2015-2016. The results of the study were used to formulate a Proposed Enhancement
Program to intensify stakeholders’ support on athletic coaches. The first sub-problem of the
study dealt on the profile of the stakeholders namely age, sex, civil status, highest educational
attainment, family monthly income, religion, and relevant in-service trainings attended. The
second sub-problem of the study dealt on the level of stakeholders’ financial, material and moral
support to the athletic coaches. The third sub-problem pertains to the Proposed Enhancement
Program to intensify the stakeholders support to athletic coaches.
Descriptive survey method was used in the conduct of the study. A validated survey
questionnaire was employed in gathering the needed data.
There were 225 respondents who participated in the study. Their responses were
analyzed with the used of frequency count, percentage, weighted mean and ranking.
The salient findings of the study are as follows: The respondents of the study are
mostly females; married; with a bachelors degree with MA units, having a family monthly income
between Php 25,000.00 and Php 29,000.00; Roman Catholic and had attended school to district
in-service training. The academic coaches seldom received financial, material and moral support
from the school’s stakeholders problem in their coaching career.
Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the respondents are relatively
young in terms of educational background and training. The Athletic coaches received inadequate
financial, material and moral support from the school’s stakeholders. The Proposed Enhancement
Program is a remedial measure to increase the level of support of the stakeholders and to serve
as a guide in encouraging the athletic coaches to grow professionally.
The study recommended that the Proposed Enhancement Program formulated in
the study be validated, reproduced and distributed to people most concerned such as the
stakeholders, DepEd higher officials , school administrators, and academic coaches. Future
researcher can make use of the present study as a guide and database in undertaking a parallel
study to include coaches and athletes as respondents. Significant difference and relationship
can be added as a sub-problem to determine the association between profile variables and the
extent of stakeholders’ support. Since the study is on the secondary schools, this study can be
replicated in the elementary with academic coaches as one of the respondents.
