UTILIZATION OF INNOVATIVE TEACHING MATERIALS IN
ARALING PANLIPUNAN IV (ECONOMICS)

This study determined the extent of utilization of innovative materials in Araling
Panlipunan IV (Economics) in the secondary schools in the municipality of Alcala, Pangasinan,
Division of Pangasinan II, SY 2014-2015. Specifically, it focused on the profile of the respondents
namely: age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, number of years teaching Araling
Panlipunan, relevant trainings and attitude toward teaching Economics. Problem No. dealt
with the extent of utilization of innovative teaching materials in economics along the following
area: Philippine Economics, Supply and Demand, Economics Sectors, and Economics Programs
and Current Issues. Further, problem number 3 determined the significant differences in the
utilization of innovative teaching materials in Economics along the profile variables. Finally,
problem number 4 focused on the significant relationships between the teachers’ utilization of
innovative teaching materials and selected profile variables. There are significant differences
in the teachers’ utilization of innovative teaching materials in economics across the variables
highest educational attainment, number of years of teaching economics, relevant trainings in
the utilization of innovative teaching materials, personality type, and attitude toward teaching
economics. In addition, there are significant relationship between the teachers’ utilization of
innovative teaching materials in economics and their profile variables as aforementioned.
The following are the salient findings of the study: 1) the teachers involved in this study
practically belong to 20-35 years of age, a greater majority is women; most of them are married,
with masters’ degree units, who have been teaching for at least
Based on the aforecited findings, the following conclusions were formulated: 1) 1.)
The profile of the teachers clearly indicate that they are, at least, practically qualified to teach
Economics, as manifested by their teaching experience, educational qualification, trainings
attended and favorable attitude toward teaching; 2.) The teachers’ extent of utilization of
innovative teaching materials in Economics, being just moderately extensive, apparently needs
improvement or enhancement, therefore, is wanting to be addressed; 3.) The variables used
in this study are simply positive indicators of comparability among the teachers in their extent
of use of innovative teaching materials but not when comes to variability or differences among
them; 4.) Similarly, the variables used in this study are not related or are not at all associated
with the teachers’ extent of use of innovative teaching materials.
The following recommendations are hereby set forth based on the aforecited findings
and conclusions: 1.) The teachers should be provided with more opportunities for professional
growth by encouraging, if not requiring, them to finish their graduate studies and attend trainings
in the higher levels, otherwise, should ; 2take it upon their own initiative. 2) The teachers’ extent
of utilization of innovative teaching materials need to be seriously addressed, using their own
initiative and resourcefulness, and, in like manner, by the school administrators by an inclusion
