             Tips and tricks for flair-filled canapés


             Canapés are little bite-sized morsels of deliciousness that kick off a terrific party. You can
             serve them as starters, or make more and turn them into a whole meal. The word canapé
             means couch or sofa in French. It’s a beautiful analogy for these tasty treats, where the
             toppings literally sit on a base of bread, as you would lounge on a sofa or couch.


             The concept of a canapé, or bite-sized morsel, originated in France as early as the 18th
             century and was later adopted by the British who started serving canapés in the 19th
             century. A canapé usually consists of some sort of bread base with a spread and a
             decorative topping. It’s typically big enough for two bites, whereas an amuse-bouche is one
             bite big.

             Prepare the bread base
             Slice your bread 1 cm thick and to an angle to give you a larger surface area for toppings.
             Work on a quantity of three canapés per person if you’re serving them as a starter and six
             canapés per person for a canapé party. You’ll know the bread bases are ready to come out
             the oven when they’re golden brown and crunchy right the way through.


             Fry up the fish
             The guideline for cooking fish is three minutes per side for a 1 cm fish. If your fish is a little
             thicker, just adjust the cooking time accordingly.Hake is a sustainable fish, pale in colour
