Heat-source trouble-shooting guide
We all know that fire is a man’s best friend. But what happens if things aren’t going your way
with the fire you’ve made? We can help:
Wet wood?
Often a few extra firelighters are all you need to get things going.
Fire burning unevenly?
It could be that pesky breeze. Just move the barbecue around to counteract the
effects of the wind.
Burning too quickly?
This could also be because of the wind. See above.
Not enough heat?
Check that your coal bed is deep enough. A single layer of coals isn’t going to
generate enough heat.
Cooking too quickly or burning?
Either your fire is too hot or your grill is too close to the coals.
Excessive flames?
Here the old trick of dousing the flames with a sprinkle of water helps – but let’s
admit it, a bit of beer always tastes better.
