GENERAL OBJECTIVES
On completion of the syllabus, students should:
1. demonstrate the ability to express concepts and feelings in Two-Dimensional and Three-
Dimensional Expressive Forms;
2. develop an awareness of how to record ideas from direct observation and personal experience;
3. know how to communicate art concepts using appropriate materials and technologies in a
disciplined way;
4. engage in experimentation and innovation, using intuition and imagination in the production
of works of art;
5. foster the use of technology in art production;
6. demonstrate a working knowledge of research and problem-solving;
7. understand the vocabulary of art and design;
8. have an awareness and understanding of the holistic nature of art and design;
9. have an appreciation for the work of other artists and designers in the Caribbean in both a
contemporary and a historical context;
10. understand cultural change and the importance of art and design in the evaluation of personal
experience in a multicultural society;
11. develop positive personal and social attitudes;
12. demonstrate the ability to produce samples integrated with historical, cultural and theoretical
studies; and,
13. develop an organised, comprehensive journal to include samples and supportive theoretical
and visual material using knowledge of layout and design techniques.
