A Picture of My Island Life
I proudly described our flag: “The yellow
represents the warmth, the bright spirit of the
people and the golden sands of the Grenadines,
the blue, which is closest to the flag pole,
represents the sky and the sea, the green
represents the lush vegetation of St Vincent’s
agriculture and the enduring vitality of the
people” .
“Fantastic”, Mom said smiling.
I closed my eyes tightly again and found myself
back in Mrs Grimm’s class. The class was just
starting their composition period.
“Today”, Mrs Grimm lectured, “we are going to
write a poem. You each need to choose one of
these topics: A day in the life of a bird, the
seaside, or the Sunset“.
I chose to write about a bird. A little injured bird. I
read it aloud to the class.
