The Curse
She was very friendly and we stayed up in the
darkness of the tent talking. “Those stories were
really scary. Were you scared?” Jasmine asked.
“Me? No way!” I lied, “There are no such things as
LaDiablesse, Ligaroo and Soucouyant!
Mr. Licorish just made up those stories. “Adults
like to tell us those stories to make us frightened
so we wouldn’t go outside after dark. They just
want to control us!” I said, trying to sound con-
vincing.
Jasmine had a strange look on her face, but
remained quiet. Soon we were fast asleep.
All of a sudden, something just told me to wake
up. I opened my eyes, but remained still. That’s
when I saw it – a big blaze of fire floating out of
our tent. I crawled slowly out of my sleeping bag
and peeked out. The blaze drifted towards the
tent close to us and went in. At that point, I was
shaking with fear. I went to wake up Jasmine, but
realized she was gone!
