RUNNING TWICE AS FAST
All of those items listed prior (and many
more!) have our community running at a
good pace to keep up with the economy
and the world around us. But as I men-
tioned earlier, that doesn’t get us ahead.
The projects that are making us run twice
as fast are the most transformative. Projects
that our community has desired for years,
even decades, are finally coming to fruition
almost all at the same time.
The former Tower Tack Factory, vacant Above The Riverside Tower Apartments on the corner of 2nd and Cragmont will al-

senior-targeted apartments on the west
end of downtown. The former Elks Lodge,
which existed for twelve years as a charred
shell of a building since a destructive fire in
2006, will open this summer as seven new
loft style apartments in the heart of down-
town. As you’re reading this, the Indiana
Department of Transportation is working
on a new bridge approach, which will
streamline traffic and improve the gateway
into Madison from the bridge. And finally,
the former Eagle Cotton Mill, which is one
of the largest buildings in historic down-
town Madison, should reopen in mid-2020
as a boutique hotel and conference center
on Madison’s riverfront. These are the
projects that currently have us running and
working twice as hard…but we are excited
about the fact that they are helping us get
somewhere new as a community!
LOOKING AHEAD
Much of this transformative time can
be attributed to our Stellar Communities

up to $6,000,000 in grant funds and tax
credits to make our vision for Madison
come true, which you can see has started
in earnest. But we’re not done running yet!
There is still more to come, including ren-
ovating and reopening the Ohio Theatre,
creating a new splash pad and Playground
for All Children on Madison’s hilltop,
creating a pocket park on Walnut Street to
commemorate the Underground Railroad,
and adding sidewalks to Clifty Drive to
improve pedestrian connectivity. With all
of this happening in Madison over the next
few years, you’d be hard pressed to find a Above The Playground for all Children on the hilltop will include not only play-

access to Main Street (IN 56), and reduce neighborhood traffic.
