Relations between Sunnis and Shiahs
at Bahrain.
Sir,
In compliance with letter No,480-X, dated 13th
September 1923 on the subject oX the relations between
Sunni6 and Shiah6 at Bahrain, I have the honour to forward
copy oX confidential letter No,132/I/II.C. from the
Political Agent, Bahrain, to my address showing the further
developments of the inquiry in regard to this affair.
I must .confess to some 6light disappointment that the
Political Agent, Bahrain, and Shaikh Hamad have so far
failed in their efforts to convene a suitable Majlis to
deal with the matter and, though fully conscious of the
local difficulties, I still incline to the belief that
taking headmen of the villages round into consultation
would have a salutary effect in creating a sonee of
collective responsibility. Considering the strenuous and
satisfactory action reported by the Political Agent,
Bahrain, in his No. 123/C dated 2bth September 1923, in a
kindred and more recent caee, I should have thought that
it should have been a comparatively easy matter to convene
a Majli6 which could be brought to the view that Budaiyeh
was responsible and must pay by blood money unle66 it could
