stolen property was suggested by a profes
sional diviner who appeared himself to be

14. A case ccurred in hedd in which a
young Arab returned from the diving banks,
celled his sister into a room and strangled
her, leaving her, as he thought, dead, The
girl recovered and escaped, 'Then the brother
was arrested he stated to the police, and
afterwards to the Court, that he had meant
to ;d 11 tne girl and thought that he had done
so as an acquaintance told him that she had
brought disgrace on bis family during his
absence, Ee was sentenced to five years
hard labour.
15. Numerous convictions were obtained
in cases of contravention of ^aws forbidding
liquor and opium. The manufacture of arak
continues and its prevention bec’onp.-* more and
more difficult as many of the younger members
of the Ruling Tamily are addicted to it. The

increasing but so far the opium habit has not
