he Beit AI Our'an (he House of the Our'an) is a unique project in many
respects. It is the first centre of its kind dedicated to the Holy Our'an. here are
museums, of course, with a mosque elsewhere, but the combination of a mosque,
where prayers are offered five times a day, with a rare collection of valuable
manuscripts and a centre for study is what makes this institution come alive.
Built on land gifted by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh lsa bin Sulman AI Khalifa,
the building was constructed at a cost of about 39 million (BD 3.25 million). his
money was all donated by the generosity of people from different walks of life,
another first in the region for the Beit A١ Our'an.
I started collecting Our'anic manuscripts in the early 1970's. By now my pesronal
collection is considered throughout the Arab world to be very important. I have
