Grime.—There were few serious crimes during the year, there was one case of culpable homicide
in which the victim was a woman of the town and the accused an Iraqi. Four cases of suspected
suicide, which is of rare occurrence in Bahrain, were reported to .e police but in none of the cases
was suicide committed. Out of 414 cases of thefts which were reported to the police 139 resulted
in court cases and 275 were not detected. Several notorious foreign characters, were repatriated to
their own countries. Out of 513 persons who were prosecuted in all courts on criminal charges, 109
were foreigners.
The two most important cases which the police brought into the Bahrain courts during the
year were one in which a Bahrain Nakhuda was charged with having appropriated Rs. 80,000 from
a parcel of notes with which he was entrusted by a merchant in Kuwait and the case of an employee
in the Indian Post Office who was charged with stealing the contents of registered letters. In the first
case the accused was found not guilty and in the second case the accused was convicted and sentenced
to two years’ hard labour and a fine.
