THE POLICE
Strength.—At the end of 1366 the strength of the Police force was as follows :—

During the year 26 men enlisted, 10 men ware discharged on completion of service, 2 men were dis
missed, 2 men died, 2 men deserted and one N.C.O. was suspended. The death occurred during the
year of Sub-Inspector Mahmood Ismail, one of the senior police officers in the force who had served
in the State Police for over 20 years. Sub-Inspector Mahmood had been for some years in charge of
the Police at Muharraq where he discharged his duty loyally and efficiently.
Duties.—The usual guards and outposts were maintained by the Police and Naturs, these
included the following duties :—

Sea patrols were carried out in the police launches and shore patrols were undertaken by the camel
and horse sections. No musketry course was fired as the last year’s practices were only completed
during the last month of the year.
Police Cadets.—In February 1946 a class of six Police Cadets began a course of training; they
were carefully selected from a number of applicants who applied in answer to a Government Ahlan.
It was hoped that more than six suitable young men would be found but only ten of the applicants
fulfilled the necessary requirements and out of the ten, four failed to pass the medical examinations.
After a short time one of the selected candidates retired for medical reasons. Of the five cadets under
training three are from the Khalifah family, one being a son of His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed
